Altar Servers have an awesome opportunity to assist directly in the celebration of the most holy sacrifice of the Mass. Servers assist at daily and Sunday Masses as well as funerals and weddings in the parish. Being a server is an opportunity available to few, and interested students should reflect on what a gift it is to be so close to the presence and activity of the living God. This gift comes also with responsibility. Servers assist the priest in setting up the sanctuary for Mass, and cleaning up afterwards. During the Mass, servers take part in the entrance and exit processions, as well as the preparation of the altar. In this they play an important role in helping the priest and community to offer sacrifice to God.
Students may enquire about becoming altar servers beginning in fifth grade. Training of new servers typically takes place in late spring and early summer, though further training is possible throughout the year.
